You know how it is always the quiet ones. Many moons ago Ivan suggested we have a cardboard cut out of David Soul in our reconstructed Reno. Remember? A couple of weeks ago he arrived with 2 Windrush suitcases during Sean's interview. Remember? Here he decides 'this is better for me.' Laughing. Fuck the sequence of the poem. It's not just what he says its how he says it. Reminds me of Laurence Olivier. Photo by John Lloyd. As are all our wonderful films. #excavatingthereno #therenolive
Ivan: 'No. No. This is better for me. This is better for me.'
Watch his eyes.
We would have had to fight him to the death to retrieve the sheet of paper.
Today, I met our Manchester International Festival producer Angela McSherry. Fabulous 2 hour meeting where she really listened to me about the ethos and reasons for our residency. She will faciliate our R&D period with physical theatre company Gecko during our residency, as we look for the story of our RENO THE MUSICAL.
Today, I was invited by the Whitworth's AD Alistair Hudson to join him on stage in the Royal Academy of Arts https://www.royalacademy.org.uk to be in conversation about the Reno project which feeds into Alistair's personal ethos that art should be useful to the masses not just a few elite, for which the Whitworth have just received a large award. A proper honour. Alistair giving us a gallery for 12 months [artists would kill for this] proves he puts his money where his mouth is.
